RBC Direct Investing > Account Types > Investment Account – Margin
When you open a margin account, RBC Direct Investing will lend you a portion of the market value of your eligible securities. RBC Direct Investing offers competitive interest rates on margin account loans.
A margin account allows you to access additional funds that can be used for personal purposes or for additional investments. Excess margin can be quickly and easily transferred to your RBC Royal Bank account or used for additional investments within the account. The margin-eligible securities in your RBC Direct Investing account are used as collateral for the loan.
Download a Margin Agreement Form and an Update/Change of Client Information Form. Once you have completed and signed both forms, simply drop them off at any RBC Royal Bank branch or mail them to RBC Direct Investing. Please note: A margin account works in conjunction with an RBC Direct Investing Cash Account. If you currently do not have an RBC Direct Investing Cash Account please complete an Investment Account Application. Due to regulatory policy, RBC Direct Investing does not open accounts for non-residents of Canada.
