
Updates You Can Make Online or Through Our Mobile App
This method is available for standard updates such as personal details and contact information.
Through Online Web Browser:
- Click the Profile icon (top right). Select "View Profile & Account Settings"
- Click "Change your Client Profile"
- View and fill out the fields you need to update and click Submit
Through Mobile App:
- Click the More menu icon (bottom right)
- Click the Profile icon (top left)
- View and fill out the fields you need to update and click Submit

Changes That Require Our Help:
Some profile and account changes may require additional documentation or steps. Please review the guidance below for your specific update type.

Note: Please use a web browser to access all links below and Message Center.
1. Address Changes Outside Canada
Submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Update/Change of Client Information form (for name change and/or out-of-country address)
- W-8BEN or W-9 form (as applicable)
If home and mailing addresses are different, Include a letter of direction or send us a secure message through the Message Center explaining the difference.
2. Mailing Address or Banking Info for Specific RBC Direct Investing Accounts
Submit through Message Center:
- Written instructions specifying the mailing address or banking details you want to add on the specific account number under your profile (for RBC bank accounts only)
3. Name Change on Personal Accounts
Submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Letter of direction that includes the date, account number(s), request to change your name from [old name] to [new name] with your old and new signature
- Update/Change of Client Information form (for name change and/or out-of-country address)
- W-8BEN or W-9 form (signed with your new signature)
- Certified True Copy of legal supporting documents – i.e. Government ID (Passport, Driver license, birth certificate etc.), Certificate of Change of Name from Directeur de l'état civil (Quebec), marriage certificate, divorce decree or separation agreement
4. Date of Birth (DOB) Changes
For Registered Accounts, submit by through Message Center:
- Letter of direction requesting the change
- Verbal instructions can be accepted over the phone for RESP Beneficiary date of birth corrections only
For Non-Registered Accounts, submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Letter of direction requesting the change
- Legal supporting documents - e.g. a copy of government issued ID with correct date of birth shown
5. Social Insurance Number (SIN) Starting with 9
Submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Photocopy showing the new SIN and expiry date
6. Adding or Removing a Trading Authority
Adding a Trading Authority, submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Complete the Trading Authorization form
To remove a Third Party, send a secure message through the Message Centre.
7. Adding or Removing a General Power of Attorney (GPA)
Adding a Power of Attorney, submit through Mail:
- Power of Attorney documents with original 'Certified True Copy' stamp from a Canadian chartered bank on each page
- For Continuing POA/Mandate in Anticipation of Incapacity: Confirmation letter signed and dated by each appointed Attorney
- Complete the Trading Authorization – Supplemental form for Attorney(s)
- VIR form if Attorney is not an RBC client, VIR (Can be accepted by RBC Secure Email)
To remove a Power of Attorney, when there are no capacity issues with the account holder(s), send a secure message through the Message Centre.
8. Adding or Removing a Third Party
Adding a Third Party, submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Complete the Third Party Determination Statement
To remove a Third Party, send a secure message through Message Centre.
9. Adding or Removing a Trusted Contact Person for Specific RBC Direct Investing Accounts
Adding a Trusted Contact Person, submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Complete the Trusted Contact Person (TCP) form
10. Removing or changing spousal information on locked in plans, including LIRA/LIF and Spousal RRSP
Submit through RBC Secure Email (fastest method) or Mail:
- Update/Change of Client Information form (for name change and/or out-of-country address)
- Proof of marriage breakdown - stamped certified true copy of original by any chartered bank
- For common-law marriage where there is no separation agreement, a letter of direction from a common-law partner is acceptable
Removal of a spouse is not guaranteed for spousal RRSPs as there are specific CRA requirements that need to be met given attribution rules. In this scenario, you will be notified if additional requirements are needed or if there are limitations to removing the spouse.
11. Beneficiary Changes
To view your existing Beneficiary set up, click on the Profile icon link at the top right of your page. Scroll down to the Account Management section and click on View & Designate Beneficiaries.
If you need to update your Beneficiary designation, follow the instructions on this page to complete the appropriate form depending on your account type and submit by Mail.
12. Updating a profile other than your own, such as making a change to a company account
Call us at 1-800-769-2560 and speak with an Investment Services Representative.

How to Send Us Change Requests and Documents
By Message Center through Online Web Browser:
Available for changes to request preferences such as mailing address to specific accounts or removal of Trading Authorities.
- Go to the Profile icon at top right of your page
- Click on Message Centre
- Find the Send Secure Email link, click on it and select RBC Direct Investing from the dropdown menu. Complete your message and click Send. We'll get back to you in about two business days.
By Secure Email (Fastest method):
